Update: 2015-09-07

Recently, Professor Hong Wang, from University of South Carolina was invited to College of Science for academic communication and giving report. Professor Wang gave an academic report Fractional Partial Differential Equations:Modeling, Numerical Methods, and Analysis.

In the report, professor Wang briefly reviewed the origin and history of fractional equation and introduced its advantage on explaining some physical phenomenon. Then he gave a summary of current difficulties faced in computing fractional equations, including a high storage requirement and low computing efficient. The report was focused on how his team worked on and broke through these difficulties by reducing the computing time to 3 days from over 1000 years. The work was significant for scientific research in this field.

Hong Wang is awarded lifelong professor of University of South Carolina, Changjiang Researcher of Ministry of Education and international doctoral supervisor. His research was significant in numerical analyze, scientific computing and computing method of permeation fluid mechanics in porous media. He has publications on SIAM J. Sci. Comput., SIAM J. Numer. Anal., J. Comput. Phys. And so on.
