The College of Science has achieved rapid development in scientific research in recent years. There are 2 post-doctoral research stations, 2 authorized doctoral degree first-level discipline for chemistry and material science, 6 authorized master degree first-level discipline for mathematics, physics, chemistry, material science and engineering and statistics and 1 authorized professional degree for material engineering field in the college. Physical chemistry discipline was awarded for the key provincial discipline in 2011. The college also runs 7 undergraduate programs, including mathematics and applied mathematics, information and computing science, applied physics, optoelectronic information science and engineering, material physics, material chemistry and chemistry. Among them, applied physics was elected for “national characteristic subject” and material physics was elected for “provincial characteristic subject”.


Chemistry

The authorized doctorate degree first-level discipline and master degree first-level discipline cover 6 second-level disciplines, which are inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry (includes chemical physics), macromolecular chemistry and physics and biochemistry. The chemistry discipline has 6 research directions: (01)inorganic chemistry, (02)analytical chemistry, (03)organic chemistry, (04)physical chemistry, (05)macromolecular chemistry and physics, (06)biochemistry.

There are 6 doctorate degree tutors and 32 master degree tutors, including 12 professors and 20 associate professors, 20 of them have doctorate degree and 10 of them have overseas experience. The research areas of the academics include petroleum organic chemistry, inorganic material synthesis, physical chemsitry, etc. and the facilities for chemistry discipline are well founded. The academics in chemistry discipline have 8 NSFC funded grants, 16 provincial funding, 25 municipal funding, 7 national patents and 6 provincial prizes for progress in science and technology. The researches in the last 5 years were published on J. Material science and engineering

The authorized doctorate degree first-level discipline and master degree first-level discipline cover 3 second-level disciplines, which are material physics and chemistry, material science and material processing.

Recently, this discipline has developed advanced research areas including surface science and corrosion protection engineering, new energy materials and nanomaterials and micro-structures. The discipline has 3 professors and 10 associate professors, 85% of them have doctorate degree. Two of the academics were elected for New Century Talent Supporting Project candidates, one of the academics was elected for key teacher by the ministry of education, one was elected for young top talent by the university in the first occasion, and one was elected for young and middle aged key teacher by the university. During the Eleventh Five-Year, the academics in this discipline obtained 52 grants, including one 973 plan prophase research special sub-project grant, 8 NSFC funding, 2 New Century Talent Supporting Project grants by the Ministry of Education, 5 young and middle aged researcher innovation grants by CNPC, 5 SDNSF funding. 1 Sinopec major r&d sub-projects. The grants in total reached 12,850,000 RMB. There are more than 206 publications, including 157 EI and SCI indexed publications, such as J. Am. Chem. Soc., Adv. Mater., ACS Nano., Small, J. Mater. Optical engineering

Optical engineering first level discipline is a new discipline in the college with authorized master degree discipline. There are 4 research areas, which are optical sensing and photoelectrical detection, laser spectrum technology, photoelectrical materials and devices, and modern optical information process.

This discipline has 6 high level master tutors, including 1 professor and 5 associate professors, with 4 NSFC funding grants, 6 provincial funding grants, 5 patents and 4 provincial prize for science and technology. The research teams have more than 100 publications, such as Optics letters, Applied Optics, Optics Express,J. Opt. Soc. Am. AChineseOptics Letters, J. Mod. Opt., Int. J. Theor. Phys., Commun. Theor., Phys., Chin. Phys., 中国科学, 物理学报, 中国激光, 光学学报, etc., among them, 50 were indexed by SCI and 30 were indexed by EI.

Mathematics

Mathematics first-level discipline is one of the fundamental disciplines in the university, with authorized master degree granting. This discipline has 5 second-level disciplines which are fundamental mathematics, computational mathematics, applied mathematics, operations research and control theory and probability and mathematical statistics. There are 9 research areas in this discipline, including (1) nolinear differential equation theory and its numerical solutions, (2) optimization and control theory and its numerical calculations, (3) numerical algebra and numerical software, (4) nonlinear functional analysis and its applications, (5) applied differential equations and software development, (6)complex differential equation and its applications, (7)financial mathematics and stochastic analysis, (8) graph theory and combinatorics and (9) information security.

This discipline has 17 master student tutors, including 13 professors and 4 associate professors, and 13 of them have doctorate degree. The discipline has well established research facilities, with characterized features.

Currently, this discipline obtained 5 NSFC funding grants and 7 provincial research grants, with more than 600 publications, including 100 SCI indexed publications and 40 EI indexed publications, such as Phys. Physics first-level discipline is one of the core disciplines in the university, with authorized master degree granting qualification. This discipline includes 8 second-level disciplines: theoretical physics, particle physics and nuclear physics, atomic and molecular physics, plasma physics, condensed matter physics, acoustics, optics and radio physics. There are 8 research directions including (01) mathematical physics and computational physics, (2) theories and applications for quantum mechanics, (3) condensed matter theory, (4) atomic and molecular physics, (5) theories and applications for information optics, (6) acoustic detection, (7) electromagnetic theory and its applications and (8) intelligent detection technology.

This discipline has 27 master student tutors, including 13 professors and 14 associate professors, and 17 of them have doctorate degree. The discipline has well established research facilities, with characterized features.

This discipline currently obtained 5 NSFC funding grants, 13 provincial funding grants, 8 national patents, 3 national prizes for invention, 8 provincial prizes for the progress of science and technology. Material engineering

Material engineering discipline is qualified to educate 3-year professional master students and 3-year engineering master students.

Recently, the discipline characterized research areas, such as material corrosion and protection technology, material computing, nano materials and technologies, new energy materials and macromolecular materials. The discipline has well established research foundations and had high impact in the petroleum industry. After a long-term development, the discipline obtained characterized cultivate directions, including directional design for new type oil gas field corrosion inhibitors, corrosion and protection techniques for petroleum equipment, corrosion and protection techniques for petroleum pipeline, surface engineering technology, macromolecular detergent, macromolecular material modification and processing technology, materials for petroleum machinery, oilfield chemistry and materials, metal surface modifications, solar cell materials and applications, materials and applications for chemical power source and new carbon materials. Currently, the discipline has 13 master student tutors, including 3 professors and 10 associate professors, and 11 of them have doctorate degree. The discipline obtained more than 50 research fundings, such as the 973 plan, NSFC funding, new century talent supporting project, Sinopec and CNPC projects, provincial research funding, etc., with the research grants reached 10,000,000 RMB.
